WAYNESBURG CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AWARDS 21st ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Educational Scholarship Fund Committee of the Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 21st annual scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was presented to Rhetta King of the Open Door Christian School.

Seventeen year old Rhetta plans to attend Geneva College to pursue a degree in Elementary Education this fall. She is the daughter of Brian and LeeAnn King of Waynesburg, Pa. and a 2011 graduate of the Open Door Christian School where she maintained a 4.2 grade point average.

This scholarship, the twenty-first for the Chamber, is presented each year to a Greene County senior who plans to attend a college or trade school. The 2011 scholarship was awarded based on grade point average and a 500 word essay on "How I Plan to Use My Education to Make a Difference in My Life and My Community". The students community involvement and school activities are reviewed in the case of a tie. Rhetta and her family were special guests of the Chamber at the May General Membership Meeting of Chamber members where she read her winning essay.

This year, twenty-two applications for the scholarship were received by the Chamber of Commerce. The committee had a difficult task of selecting one winner from the qualified field. The Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all who participated in the process.
