WAYNESBURG CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AWARDS
The Educational Scholarship Fund Committee of the Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 20th annual scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was presented to Erica Bristor of Waynesburg Central High School. The 2010 Scholarship was underwritten entirely by Alpha Natural Resources. Eighteen year old Erica plans to attend Grove City College to pursue a degree to become a Physician’s Assistant this fall. She is the daughter of John and Debbie Bristor of Waynesburg, Pa. and a 2010 graduate of Waynesburg Central High School where she maintained a 4.0 grade point average. This scholarship, the twentieth for the Chamber, is presented each year to a Greene County senior who plans to attend a college or trade school. The 2010 scholarship was awarded based on grade point average and a 500 word essay on “How I Plan to Use My Education to Make a Difference in My Life and My Community”. The students community involvement and school activities are reviewed in the case of a tie. Erica and her family were special guests of the Chamber at the May General Membership Meeting of Chamber members where she read her winning essay. This year, thirty applications for the scholarship were received by the Chamber of Commerce. The committee had a difficult task of selecting one winner from the qualified field. The Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all who participated in the process. |
